The three things that set your price
1. Vehicle size. A same-day courier isn't one price — it's a ladder based on what vehicle your item needs. A small motorcycle courier for a document or small parcel starts at £35, with a 20kg capacity. At the other end, a Luton van with a tail lift — for pallets, furniture, or bulk stock — starts at £80, carrying up to 1,200kg. The vehicles in between — Small Van (700kg) starts at £45, Ford Transit SWB (900kg) starts at £55, and Renault Trafic MWB (1,100kg) starts at £60. The vehicle size isn't upsold to you; it's matched to what you're actually sending, so you're not paying Luton-van prices for an envelope.
2. Distance. Same-day courier pricing is built around miles between collection and drop-off, on top of the vehicle's base rate. Depending on the vehicle size, this per-mile rate scales from £1.00 per mile (Motorcycle) up to £2.20 per mile (Luton).
3. Congestion Charging Zone (CCZ). If your collection or delivery point falls inside London's EC1 or WC1 postcodes, a flat £18 CCZ charge applies on either end of the job. This isn't a courier markup — it's what Transport for London charges any vehicle entering those zones, and we pass it through at cost rather than burying it in a bigger quote.

All quoted prices carry 20% VAT, applied consistently — what you see is what you pay, no separate line-item surprise at invoice time.
When same-day is actually worth the price
Same-day isn't the right call for everything, and pretending otherwise would be bad advice. It earns its cost when:
- A legal document has a same-day court deadline
- A medical specimen needs to move within a fixed clinical window
- A machine on a production line is down and a part has to arrive today
- An event happening tonight needs a prop, part, or document that can't wait for tomorrow's van round
If it's a birthday present remembered at 4pm, a next-day service does the same job for a fraction of the cost. We'd rather tell you that than sell you a service you didn't need.
